Reveal: A 'vintage world traveller' inspired nursery

The Mister and I have finally put the very finishing touches on the Mini-Mister's nursery and we're ready to share it with the world!

The colour scheme was going to be grey, white and navy whether the baby was a girl or boy. I just love the fresh preppiness of those colours for both genders. Things really snowballed from there. The Mister and I love to travel and that lends itself well to a little boy's room. I also like a vintage feel for adding character plus that allowed us to add items from our youth without it seeming out of place! (We're not THAT old though!)

Unique items that you'll find around the room;
  • Vintage maps
  • Travel memorabilia that I've collected over the years
  • Old books of the Mister's and mine (children's books and his baby books)
  • Sports medals and trophies (the Mister's)
  • Vintage luggage (my mother's honeymoon gift from my grandparents - 1977)
  • A rocking chair that belonged to the Mister's grandmother (A gift for her 25th wedding anniversary - approx. 1975)
  • Crocheted items (by the Mister's great grandmother - 1977)
  • Baby keepsakes of mine (1983) and the Mister's as well (1977)
  • Travel advice frame from the guests of my shower
  • A beautiful custom name print
  • Many other cute gifts that we received
  • ...and SO much more!

Projects done in this room;
  • RAST hack (Union Jack night stand)
  • Paper airplane mobile made from vintage maps
  • Painted wall letters
  • Vintage Pepsi crate refinished as a toy box
  • Built-in shelving
  • Ikea spice rack bookshelves
  • Refinished rocking chair
  • Roman blinds and cushions for rocking chair (the Mister's mother's handy work)
The whole project was a real labour of love. At this point in time, we understand that it's all for us and that Mini-Mister couldn't care less about his surroundings, but we hope that as he grows so will his interest in the uniqueness of his space. We also hope that he'll grow to see just how much we wanted him to love his room.

Truth be told, we used to have a double bed, two small night stands, and a tall dresser in here and it felt absolutely tiny. Today, I can sit on the bed and look around and feel like our little boy's room is huge... proof of the value of a proper layout!

At any given time, you can probably find me leaning on the door frame, admiring the space.
We hope you love the room as much as we do.
